Mysti Gates

Mysti Gates is an English Instructor at the University of Arkansas at Rich Mountain. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and her Master’s degree in Education – both from Texas A&M University – Texarkana. She also earned a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Arkansas Tech University.

Mysti’s background is in writing and editing. She has experience with various types of writing. She has published a children’s book, written articles for the newspaper, and authored almost a dozen entries for the Encyclopedia of Arkansas. Her work has been published in the Polk County Pulse, The Mena Star, the Arkansas-Democrat Gazette, and the New York Times. Mysti has also worked on various technical writing projects, including grants, proposals, and regulatory and accreditation documents. She previously served as a high school newspaper adviser and recently had her work published in the Professors at Play Playbook.

Mysti is a member of the Polk County Quality of Life Initiative, the director of its Pretty in Pink project, and the President of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (ΔΚΓ), an organization that promotes the personal and professional growth of female educators. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, and researching. It is often through genealogy that she is able to uncover the information she needs for her entries for the Encyclopedia of Arkansas, specifically those related to local history. She serves as the Associate Editor for the Arkansas Family Historian quarterly journal and is a member of the AGS Board of Directors.
